About Us
This is a house built single-handedly by the father, with the support of the entire family:
- Master Yang: The carpenter of the Wooden House. Starting at the age of 50 in 2000, he spent 18 years building the main structure alone.
- Mrs. Yang: Owner and supervisor of the Wooden House. For 20 years, she provided meals for Master Yang without interruption, even in the toughest construction conditions.
- Eldest Daughter/Chi-Shu: Operations coordinator of the Wooden House. Growing up watching her father build the house, her dreams also revolve around it.
- Son-in-law/Yu-Chien: Construction coordinator of the Wooden House. With a love for his “wife” and “house,” he went from documenting Master Yang to learning wooden architecture, excelling in coordination and communication, and hoping to take over the maintenance of the house in the future.
- Youngest Daughter/Ching-Wen & her husband/Ting-Chu: Cheerleaders from afar, the only daughter who teases and drinks with Master Yang.
- In 2012, this construction project won the 9th Keep Walking Dream Fund Award
- Since 2012, various reality documentary programs have interviewed them (TVBS/Step by Step, Public Television/Who’s Coming to Dinner, CTS News Magazine, etc.)
- In 2022, the documentary “Family Tree” directed by Su Yu-Ting, recording 20 years of the house, was nominated for Best Documentary at the Busan Film Festival and received funding from the National Culture and Arts Foundation.

【+ Dining Together】
Mrs. Yang insists that every meal must include fish. In Fangliao, one fish per person is standard. Depending on the seasonal staple food and the number of reservations, 5-8 dishes (or 1 dessert) will be served, or a few recommended local specialties from Fangliao will be delivered to the house’s dining table for everyone to enjoy together.
- The house’s dining table is long, and the most comfortable seating is for 4-8 people (maximum 8 people).
- This house is truly a living space for the family. We only host one group of visitors at a time, and the family will dine with you at the same table.

Customer Reviews
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Today I participated in the tour of the Wooden House and gained a lot. Master Yang and his son-in-law took us through every corner of the house, explaining the care and stories behind each detail. It turns out that traditional architecture holds so much wisdom and traces of life. It was truly an eye-opening and moving experience.

Having a dream is the most beautiful thing, and being able to realize your own dream gives the greatest achievement to your life. Since 2004, they have been refining the details. The two-story semi-wooden Japanese-style building was all designed and constructed by Mr. Yang himself. It took time, patience, and cost, and more importantly, the support and consensus of the family. The result is a warm home and harmony among people. If you are traveling to Pingtung, be sure to visit the Wooden House and savor it slowly.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“Family Outing” First-time visit to a wooden structure house. The owner’s explanation was very warm, and we also toured the living space completed by Master Yang. I admire his persistence, his determination to overcome obstacles, and the mutual support among family members. I understand the “values” and way of life they are protecting. Thank you for their efforts in promoting wooden houses without keeping it to themselves!
